Don and Marie Eklund opened Heidi's Coffee Shop on August 30, 1968, between Gresham and Sandy on Highway 26. This menu appears to date to the opening. Over five years, it grew into Heidi's Swiss Village, featuring a gift shop, bakery, deli, and boutique. Despite challenges, including a devastating fire, the Eklunds rebuilt and expanded. Heidi's Swiss Village thrived as a hub for food, shopping, and community during the 1970s, providing a popular stop on the way to Mt. Hood. In 1980, the Eklunds established Heidi's of Gresham, focusing on year-round business. The Swiss Village's unique alpine charm and innovative concept made it central to Gresham's social life, while the Gresham location preserved the Eklunds' legacy of family-friendly dining. In 1982, the Eklunds sold the Swiss Village to focus on Heidi's of Gresham.
