- Provenance
- The Gresham High School building was completed in 1915 and opened the following school year. Previously, high school classes were taught in a schoolhouse that is on the current site of West Gresham Elementary School. A ninth-grade class was created during the 1902-03 school year, and a grade was added each year until the first senior class graduated in 1906. There were two graduates in the "pioneer class" of 1906. In 1922, a gymnasium and auditorium were built, followed by a south wing of classrooms in 1936. In 1940, extensive alterations to the original building were made through the Works Progress Administration, including the current gym, an updated auditorium, a north wing of classrooms, and an agriculture building. Prior to 1953, the Gresham High boundaries extended from the Columbia River to the north, 92nd street to the west, Damascus to the south and the Sandy School District to the east. In the fall of 1954, David Douglas started and included the area from Glisan north to the Columbia River; in 1959, Centennial carved out an area approximately from 181st to the David Douglas School District; and in 1968, Sam Barlow took the students from Orient-Damascus and east of 242nd.
