Lowell, Lane County, Oregon, United States
This article is issuing a statement about the telephone service being integrated into Lowell that replaces the ‘crank-type’ phones from the 1910. There was only one phone at the store that ‘subscribers’ of north bank of the upper Willamette, Fall Creek and Lowell could use. Another phone was used for the Springfield region. This article explains that the dial phones, rotary phones are replacing the ’party line’ phone. There was 50 ‘girls’ that were trained as operators and transferred to different regions and six to eight stayed. This was a passing of an era where the locals would hear a familiar voice transferring their calls, will be no longer.
