About the collection:

The Oregon Historical Trademarks collection features a selection of trademarks registered with Oregon’s Secretary of State between 1864 and 1933. The collection, comprised of 200 images, showcases industries that shaped Oregon’s early economy, including agriculture, forestry, and fishing. While the trademarks primarily represent companies and products based in Oregon, some also reference offices or operations in other states.

A trademark is a word, name, symbol or device which is used in trade to indicate the source of the goods and to distinguish them from the goods of others. A service mark is the same as a trademark except that it identifies and distinguishes the source of a service rather than a product. The terms "trademark" and "mark" are commonly used to refer to both trademarks and service marks. The Oregon State Archives holds approximately 15,000 trademark descriptions, drawings, and labels. Contact the Oregon State Archives for additional information. All trademarks featured in this exhibit are in the public domain.
